Chicken Nugget and Gang, Inc. encompasses a few different things. We take in small animals that have been abandoned or surrendered. We work with Johnson County Animal Shelter and The Humane Society of Boone County, Indiana when they need help, specifically in urgent cases. Johnson County will take small animal surrenders, then they call Rescues to pick up. The Humane Society of Boone County has called when they had neglect cases and there are small animals involved. Also, the Animal Control Officer for Boone County Sheriff’s Department calls when they need help. We have even picked up stray chickens, etc. We have these animals vetted, (all bunnies spayed or neutered) and then make them available for adoption. For some of the animals that have been through a really rough time, we have decided to keep them here as part of our small sanctuary.
In addition, I have a Therapy Dog, Rock, a Great Pyrenees, and he and I go out and volunteer. We recently started ‘Read with Rock’ once a month, at our local Brad’s Books. We have visited Assisted Living facilities, Rehabs, Memory Care Facilities, Daycare Facilities, Apt. communities, Christmas at the Zoo/Santa’s Workshop for the children, and even businesses to cheer up the staff. In addition, we have taken along some of the smaller animals to some of the locations when requested (Bunnies, Guinea pigs and Chicken Nugget). Chicken Nugget has attended several events, also. We have started a ‘Friends of Nugget’, which supports other Rescues, Shelters, Humane Societies, etc. whose facilities we have visited (more than once) and know that they Vet check, and care, for their animals, take good care of them, and Vet their Adopters. We also, have (and will) lend our ‘Friends of Nugget’ a hand, when needed. For example, we have been actively assisting Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue out. We have hosted/organized adoption events for them at pet stores, because of their large number of dogs. We always promote their organization and adoptable dogs. And, anything else I/we can do to help out. We have brought in adoptable animals from other rescues when we had meet and greets. At the end of the day, it isn’t about rehoming the animals we have asap, it is about pairing the right animal with the right adopter.
Essentially, the main mission of Chicken Nugget and Gang is to create an interconnected web of animal care centers across Indiana and beyond, so that whatever animal needs arise, we’re able to work together and get it taken care of. This works in ways large and small, whether it be helping transport two surrendered geese to a shelter that’s able to care for them, sharing a donation of large dog food with a shelter that has more large dogs, or joining forces during adoption events. We also want to work to educate our volunteers, fosters, and adopters about the real requirements of the care for the animals they want to work with, to lessen the chance of them surrendering the animal after they’ve adopted one. We hope to continue to get our eligible rescues certified as therapy animals so as to keep giving back to our community and furthering animal education in the area. We promote giving back to your community. Last, we want to work with children, and adults, to be kind to animals, and each other. To be ‘Nugget Kind’.
