AE Pets International: Reuniting Military families and their Pets.
The mission of AE Pets Foundation is to ease the financial burden of U.S. military men and women faced with the challenge of transporting their pets overseas when they are given their permanent change of
station (PCS).Military personnel are regularly transferred to new posts (PCS). There are a very small percentage who receive assistance from the military to transfer their family pets. The costs can be prohibitive.
The value of a pet to one’s psychological well-being is immeasurable, and we believe this support is essential to our servicemen and women.
The money raised goes toward:
-Health certificate processing and certification (when required) and applying for international permits.
-Airline approved pet travel crate(s).
-Fees for international check-in, airline documents, paperwork processing, airline handling.
-Freight costs
-Documentation and customs clearing fees at destination airport
-Boarding and ground transportation (when needed).
Statistically there is a spike in pets being dropped off at shelters near military bases during these permanent change of station (PCS) periods. The high costs of transporting dogs and cats internationally can range between $2,500.00 to $10,000.00 per pet. This cost is unreachable for almost all enlisted.
The impact is both on the armed forces and their pets. For the humans, having their pets with them when away from home helps to keep their sense of family. Many of these animals also help their human counterparts cope with PTSD. Our goal is to help keep more and more military families together while keeping more of their dogs and cats out of the shelters.
